Day 33 – rain and wind all the way to Hamilton

  • Date: 18.12.2019
  • Ta km: 730.2-759 Hakarimata range to Hamilton
  • Actually walked: 32ish
  • Dry feet: no
  • Blisters: ok

When I woke up it was still raining. How disappointing. I put on my rain jacket and pants and the walking (slipping on mud) could begin.

Interesting, right?

We had 4 more kilometers to go to get to the summit and then it was a steep walk down a whole bunch of stairs. The weather was still miserable and on top of the drizzle it was very windy. So windy in fact, that I got my earplugs because I was so annoyed by the wind.

A cool bridge

The walk to Hamilton was about 20km next to a river, on a nice concrete path. Or it would be nice if we were on bicycles, but after a while it got kinda boring and the concrete is very hard on the feet. But at least the further we were from Ngaruawahia, the bettet the weather was.

I wanted to go to the DOC office in Hamilton to buy my hut pass but we got there about 5min too late. Oh well. So instead we went to have a burger for dinner and to buy new gas canisters and some christmas decorations for our packs. Another successful day done!
